What is Community House Whanganui and what do you do?

Community House Whanganui is a base for community organisations in Whanganui located on the first and second floors of 60 Ridgway Street, Whanganui.  We are an incorporated society and our office is located on the first floor of the Community House Whanganui building, Room 102. The remaining office space is available at reasonable rates for community organisations, both permanent and casual, along with shared facilities for conference, meeting and training purposes.
Our building is disabled accessible (a lift is available and disabled toilet facilities are provided).
Community House is based on the principle of collaboration.
The concept that while not-for-profit organisations are different, we are working towards the same end (a healthy, vibrant, inclusive community), and that this is better achieved by working together, sharing resources, and supporting each other.
Community House Whanganui provides the following services and support to its member groups, as well as to a host of other local and regional not-for-profit groups (educational institutions, sports teams, cultural groups, churches, interest groups etc).
ADMINISTRATION SERVICES: accounts, payroll, help with funding applications etc for not-for-profit organisations.
COM CHAT: we produce and distribute the ComChat newsletter to community organisations.
DATABASE ENQUIRIES: we hold and maintain a database of local and regional community organisations, halls for rent etc.
GENERAL ENQUIRIES: we regularly provide assistance in directing people in emergency situations to appropriate organisations, as well as answer database and other enquiries from the community.
STATIONERY SERVICES: we are also able to provide stationery and services such as photocopying, laminating and binding etc, to community organisations at reasonable rates.
RIDGWAY CONFERENCE ROOM: we have a self-service training and meeting room equipped with conferencing system, projector, whiteboard etc, with its own kitchen and toilet facilities. It is suitable for small and large groups (seats up to 80 theatre style or 40 at tables) and is available for hire evenings and weekends, as well as between normal business hours.
INTERVIEW/COUNSELLING ROOM: we have for hire a smaller room ideal for interviews or counselling.
BOARDROOM: we have for hire a boardroom with conferencing system.

Can businesses use room hire facilities and other services? ​

Yes.  We have a lot of regular private businesses who use our conference room and services.
We have different rates for private and not-for-profit groups, but the private rates are still competitive.

How do we put advertisements into Com.Chat or on Facebook?

Please email your information to office@communityhouse.org.nz.  Alternatively hard copy flyers etc can be dropped into our office room 102 on the 1st floor at 60 Ridgway Street, Whanganui.  You can provide us with an existing advertisement or the content and any logos or pictures you would like included and we can make one up for you.  The deadline for information for Com.Chat is the end of the month prior to publication.  Com.Chat is emailed out the first week of the month.  Information can be added to Facebook at any time.

How do we add our organisation or group to your database?

It’s really simple… just contact us with your organisations name, postal address, contact person and their position, a contact phone number, email address and website (if you have one), details of the venue and meeting times, and a brief description of your organisation.  We will do the rest for you.
